Tape formats such as VHS are subject to degradation due to time or extensive playing. Why not transfer precious videos to DVD? DVDs last at least 100 years if properly cared for, whereas video tapes may only last 10 or 15 years. Source tapes can be in VHS, SVHS, or MiniDV.
